When faced with a win-win negotiation situation, my initial thoughts and feelings were a mix of apprehension and excitement. On the one hand, I knew that the potential outcome of the negotiation was a positive one, which filled me with a sense of optimism (Kulik & Neale, 2016). On the other hand, I also realized that getting to that outcome could be difficult and challenging, which filled me with a sense of uncertainty and dread. To cope with these thoughts and feelings, I worked to focus on the potential positive outcomes of the negotiation, which helped me to remain open-minded and confident in my approach. At the same time, I was mindful of the fact that I needed to be flexible and willing to compromise in order to find a mutually beneficial agreement (Kulik & Neale, 2016). I knew that in order to arrive at a positive outcome, I would need to be willing to give and take in the negotiation, and that my own interests would have to take a backseat to some degree in order to reach a satisfactory outcome.
