Implementation of Smart Phones in Baylor University and Academic Center

The use of smartphones has become prevalent in academic hospitals today. Reports indicate that in the United States, healthcare professionals use smartphones to coordinate over 80 percent of their routine operations. Smartphones are famous technology that combines telephone communication and informatics in portable devices. Al Kuwaiti et al. (2018) indicated that smartphones in medical hospitals have transformed several aspects of clinical practice. Wu et al. (2010) argue that smartphones are becoming commonplace in medical settings today. The existence of medical devices has prompted rapid growth in the development of medical software applications used in clinical practices. In academic hospitals, smartphones are used to undertake essential tasks like information gathering, storing, and dissemination; time management, maintenance, access to health records; communication and consulting; reference and information gathering; clinical decision-making, patient management, monitoring, and medical education and training. This paper proposes the need to introduce smartphones applications in Baylor University Medical Center to facilitate communication and clinical practices and enhance research and clinical care.             The onset of the covid-19 pandemic has imposed a significant challenge in the healthcare sector, promoting the need to introduce smartphones to facilitate communication between healthcare professionals and patients or students while in their homes. The pandemic saw the overreliance on telemedicine to offer medical solutions to patients in remote areas. Telemedicine is an approach that allows patients with chronic infections like cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, or hypertension to be discharged and allowed to continue with their medication in the comfort of their homes. The program provides for follow-up by nurses and other healthcare professionals using smartphones or any computer device while patients are in the comfort of their homes or offices.

Telemedicine is slowly but steadily becoming popular in the United States. Organizations such as Baylor, which are known cancer centers, have adopted telemedicine for patients with underlying conditions to control the spread of the pandemic and reduce the risk of the pandemic on the vulnerable population. One widely used telemedicine approach used in many academic healthcare centers is smartphones. The mobile device is effective in information gathering, storing, and dissemination; time management, maintaining and accessing health records; communication and consulting; reference and information gathering, clinical decision-making, patient management, monitoring, and medical education and training.

Baylor University Medical Center offers the latest cancer-related treatments, which are of excellent quality. The hospital opened its cancer center in 2012, which has helped reduce cancer-related issues across the country. The medical center has over 1200 physicians and staff and more than one thousand beds. Baylor is a 1065 bed system with 6 specific medical facilities. Baylor has received high federal rating for heartcare, gynecology, urology, and orthopedics. In addition, Baylor has obtained a high national ranking for patient care, innovation, research and education. Baylor is a center for physician and nursing training with several programs. Baylor absorbs its students back to work as medical practitioners after they graduate. Baylor is located in Dallas, USA. The organization is engaged in several activities that require the use of smartphones. The major activity of Baylor is education and research. The implementation of smartphones will help the organization pass knowledge to students and patients, reduce medical cost by cutting travel costs, and enhance healthcare quality and care outcomes.

According to Lo et al. (2012), smartphones are frequently used among students, physicians, and medical interns, with overall use rates reaching 80 percent. These reports indicate that iOs-based systems such as iPhone are the widely used platform. Smartphones are popular in academic medical centers because of their versatility. The use of smartphone applications in academic hospitals helps in the decision-making process, information search and education application, and clinical practices (Felbaum et al., 2018). There is little evidence regarding the effectiveness of smartphones in improving academic performance among medical students.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths

·         The organization has highly skilled staff and students who can effectively use smartphone applications

·         The hospital space is attractive and inviting for implementing smartphones in the organization.

·         Students and physicians are the major stakeholders in this project, and they are supportive. They have accepted the need for smartphone implementation in the organization to facilitate education search, training, clinical practice, and information sharing.

·         Baylor is a cancer center, and therefore, the implementation of smartphones will enhance the use of the telemedicine approach currently introduced in the organization for patients with chronic infections.

·         The availability of training and education programs in the hospital will enhance the implementation of new technologies such as smartphone application implementation.

Weaknesses

·         Limited space

·         Limited network access

Opportunities

·         Innovative teamwork. Baylor is a creative academic center that offers high-quality services and uses new technology in its operations.

·         Medical students: the availability of medical students helps to offer the skills needed to use smartphone applications at the college level so that when the students are retained in the organization, they already have the skills, and as a result, the cost of training them will be reduced.

·         The current pandemic: the covid 19 pandemic has presented a need to invest in technology in healthcare organizations to allow patients to continue receiving treatments in the comfort of their homes. The implementation of smartphones will help the organization to implement telemedicine programs effectively.

·         Availability of smartphones: Over 80 percent of the total population have or understand how to use smartphones in the U.S. The availability of smartphones will reduce the cost of implementing smartphones to improve academic performance and enhance the quality of clinical practices.

·         Excellent infrastructure network: Dallas is amongst the most affluent communities with good roads, network coverage, security, and social amenities. The implementation of the use of smartphones requires excellent network coverage. Excellent network coverage in Dallas is a great opportunity

Threats

·         The constant change in technology

·         Threats of cyber actors

·         Security and confidentiality threats to patient’s electronic records

·         Threats of damage and loss of sensitive information

·         Threats of

Gap analysis map

The current performance (where we are)

Baylor University Medical Center is a profit organization. The organization wants to increase its growth by 30 percent per year but has been growing at 10 percent a year. This puts the current of Baylor at 8 percent growth per year. The organization has experienced a significant decline in its revenue since the onset of the pandemic. When the pandemic struck, the organization had to release all medical students and reduce hospital congestion by 50 percent. This follows the government directive, which demanded more space in hospitals to reduce the spread of the pandemic. Currently, the organization serves half of its usual patient population. The average patient population currently stands at 1000 daily instead of the usual 3000 patients. The organization has also limited the population of its students by a more significant percentage to minimize congestion in classes. These measures have reduced the organizational returns to 8 percent annually instead of the previous 15 percent as recorded in 2018.

The abrupt decline is pegged on the effects of the pandemic, which ravaged the organizational operations. However, with the implementation of smartphone applications, the organization will be able to continue with its operations like teaching, training, and clinical practices even when students and patients are in the comfort of their homes or offices. There is a greater need for implementing smartphone use in the organization to help students continue receiving learning services at their homes even in the face of the pandemic. Similarly, it will help patients receive treatment and limit their face-to-face visits to hospitals for medical services. The organization also records low sales volume because the number of patients outweighs the total population of patients. When the face-to-face treatment method is used, each nurse can only serve a maximum of 100 patients in a day. However, through the telemedicine approach, a nurse can serve up to 200 patients daily. The most convenient telemedicine approach is the use of smartphones. The implementation of smartphones will increase the effectiveness of telemedicine, and as a result, there will be increased returns in the organization.

Where the organization wants to be (the potential of the organization)

The organization’s future target or desired goal is to increase its annual sales to 30 percent by the end of the year. To achieve this goal, the organization must change how it executes its operations by identifying the gap and how that gap can be bridged. The organization targets annual revenue of $25000 per physician and educator. This will be a greater improvement from the current $15000. The organization also seeks to increase its average patient-to-nurse ratio by implementing telehealth and telenursing. Through telehealth and telenursing, the average number of patients that nurses will attend to n a day will shift from 100 to 200. Telenursing is helped to reduce hospital congestion and healthcare costs and enhance the quality-of-care services and outcomes. It efficiently addresses care challenges to patients in remote areas and those with acute conditions.

Identifying the gap

From the above chart, the “gap” is the grey shaded areas representing the differences between where the organization is currently and where it wants to be. The organization now has a revenue of $50 million. With the increase in revenue by 30 percent towards the end of the fiscal year, the organization is likely to increase its revenue to $200 million with 30% growth in 12 months and $103 million with 8% growth in the same period. Therefore, the gap that needs to be bridged is $97 billion.

Why there are gaps

Baylor University Medical Center uses the traditional medical approaches, such as face-to-face, which have become outdated today. The pandemic subjected patients to stay at home and acquire medical services in the comfort of their homes. the onset of the pandemic informed the need for other approaches such as telemedicine, telenursing and health informatics to address patient needs. These new approaches are effective in providing care to patients with acute conditions such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular infections. Baylor University Medical Center is popular for its exemplary services in the treatment of chronic conditions. It is also popular for its high-quality learning services to medical students, research and training. Many academic hospitals adopted telehealth as the primary technique of care. The powerful tools of telehealth are smartphones.

The implementation of smartphones presents a more significant opportunity for Baylor University Medical Center because it will enhance service delivery and the quality of clinical services. The performance of smartphones in Baylor University Medical Center will increase the number of patients attended to by nurses per day, which is essential in increasing returns to the organization. The Baylor University Medical Center enjoys the following privileges which are necessary for the successful implementation of smartphones in academic centers. These opportunities include excellent network coverage, availability of smartphones, skilled manpower, innovative workforce, high patient population, and medical students’ existence.

Work breakdown structure (WBS) for the implementation of smartphones in Baylor University Medical Center

The above work breakdown structure shows various activities undertaken when implementing smartphones in Baylor University Medical Center. From the diagram, it is evident that the implementation of the smartphones in Baylor University Medical Center will involve five major stages which include initiation, planning, execution, control and close out. Activities that will be undertaken in all these stages are reflected in the WBS. The WBS is an essential tool in project implementation (Sipes, 2019). The advantages of WBS in project management are that it defines and organizes all the work required and facilitates the quick development of a schedule by allocating effort estimates to sections of the WBS. In addition, WBS is used in project management to identify all the scope risks, and it provides a visual of the entire scope.

Project timeline

The project aims to implement smartphones in Baylor University Medical Center within 31 days. The proposed project’s impact will be felt after the close of the fiscal year. The major activities that will be undertaken during the project implementation include hiring nursing informaticists, purchasing smartphones, installing policies, security, and applications on the smartphones, and training the physicians, tutors, and students who will be the major stakeholders of the project. The project is scheduled to start in November and will close at the onset of December the same year. The project timeline has indicated how the activities identified in this project will be undertaken (Sipes, 2019). The use of a project timeline is essential in project management. It enhances project communication; there is ease in the tracking down of project progress, it outlines project goals and prioritizes activities

Responsibility chart: The RACI chart

The implementation of the proposed project will involve various stakeholders such as the project manager, consultant, team leaders, supervisor, finance manager, coordinator, and the project sponsor or project leaders. The RACI chart presents the tasks to be completed and the status of the tasks in this project. The task status included in the RACI chart shows whether the project is in progress, on hold, or is competing. The advantage of having a RACI chart is that it shows the stakeholders responsible for specific tasks. The chart also shows the statuses of the tasks to be completed. This helps determine whether or not the project will be completed within the timeline using the available resources. Completing the project within the stipulated time helps ensure that the activities are the roles are executed and are adhering to the set budget limits (Sipes, 2019). This helps to ensure that the project does not cost extra costs or delays.

Change management

The project seeks to introduce smartphones to Baylor University and Medical Center. The introduction of smartphones will improve academic students’ academic achievements and enhance communication to facilitate the execution of clinical practices. It also seeks to increase the organizational returns and cost of acquiring healthcare services. The project seeks to reduce physical contact amongst the corporate stakeholders by introducing smartphone applications that can be used virtually and with patients and students in remote areas. The change that the project seeks to introduce will be managed by ensuring effective communication amongst all stakeholders and reducing the project’s resistance. Also, the change will be managed through training and educating all stakeholders on the significance of the project.

Communication plan

The following tools will communicate with stakeholders during the project initiation. They include email, Slack, Asana, Zoom, Google Meet, and social media sites. The use of every tool will depend on the nature of the information being shared. For instance, we will use email to communicate with external stakeholders. We will use Slack for synchronized communication about daily updates and quick questions. We will use Zoom and Google Meet for team meetings such as project post mortem and project brainstorming. Asana will be used to communicate synchronously about work, project details, project status updates and key project documents.

Communication plan for the implementation of Smartphones to Baylor University and Medical Center

Description Frequency Channel Audience Owner
Status project updates Weekly Asana All internal stakeholders and project team members Project manager
Virtual team meetings Monthly Zoom all project team members, stakeholders optional Project manager
external stakeholder updates As needed Zoom Project manager and project stakeholders Project sponsor
milestone and deliverable updates As needed Asana Project team All project team members
Project check-ins Daily Slack Project team  All project team members

Risk management

The risks associated with this project include the effect of the pandemic, the war between Ukraine and Russia, and constant changes in technology. Economic, social and political risks characterize the pandemic. The pandemic has imposed major factors on the healthcare sector. The pandemic has reduced revenue collection in several healthcare organizations across the country and claimed many nurses and doctors. The implementation of smartphones in Baylor aims to counter the impacts of the pandemic by allowing digital learning, healthcare delivery, and access to electronic healthcare records. The risks of cyber actors who steal intellectual and business data are also a major issue for this project. However, project risks can be mitigated by developing strong security compliance and ensuring proper cryptography in smartphone apps to reduce cyber actors’ ability to hack them.

Conclusion

This paper has proposed the need to implement smartphones at Baylor University and Academic Center to counter the threats imposed by the pandemic to learners, healthcare providers, and patients. Smartphones are essential tools for sharing information, accessing electronic health records, learning resources, and changing clinical practices. It also acts as a medium for interacting with patients and learners in remote areas. The implementation of the smartphone will help in offering healthcare and learning services to learners remotely. The move is also characterized by increasing the annual organizational revenue, reducing hospital and classroom congestion, reducing the cost of accessing healthcare services, and increasing the quality of healthcare outcomes.

Of more significant importance, however, is that the organization posted very low scores in encouraging wellness among the employees and giving them reasonable workload that is distributed evenly among all staff members. These low scores show that the organization has performed poorly in these sections and this has had a negative impact on the healthy work environment. This is probably because, given the huge number of patients, employees have had to work longer shifts thereby ignoring their personal wellness. Work Environment Essay

The two things that surprised me most about the results is that the organization values its employees and that they work towards retaining the best minds within the institution. This finally made me understand why the organization has been putting in efforts in empowering and educating their staff. For instance, individuals can be given full scholarships to further their studies or conduct research that is relevant to the institution. By valuing the employees, the organization has strived to listen and give attention to their opinions. This has built resilience among the employees, even during events when one has to handle more workload. One idea that I believed prior to conducting the assessment that was confirmed is that most employees handle huge workloads and this has definitely affected their wellbeing. This is partially due to the increasing number of patients that keep visiting the institution and need urgent medical attention. Being a recognized institution for offering quality care, handling too many patients is the order of the day.

The results of the assessment suggest that the health and civility of my workplace is above average but not excellent. This is because the organization is still lagging behind in promoting the wellbeing of its employees and distributing the workload evenly. Therefore, to achieve excellence in civility and attaining a healthy workplace, more focus should be shifted to reducing employees’ workload. This can be achieved by hiring more staff and having the employees work in flexible shifts. This way, quality care will be provided and achieved in a healthy work environment.

The selected article was authored by Clark & Griffin (2014). In this article, the authors have provided a discussion on how to implement the cognitive rehearsal technique/concept as an intervention against incivility and lateral violence in nursing. Cognitive rehearsal technique refers to an evidence-based practice/technique whereby nurses and health practitioners practice to handle stressful situations that they may experience in a non-threatening environment. For instance, nurses will practice how to make decisions when faced with dilemmas or how to handle troublesome patients whose health deterioration will affect their practice or reputation in the workplace. This training also includes how to handle stressful colleagues. Cognitive rehearsal technique is important to allow nurses function well and promote civility in a healthy workplace (Razzi & Bianchi, 2019).

The concept of cognitive rehearsal technique is related to the results of my assessment in various ways. For instance, it relates to how decision-making is achieved in the organization. Without involving all the appropriate stakeholders, conflicts may arise and this will affect the quality of care being provided.  It also relates to how fair the employees are being treated. Unfairness often causes conflicts to arise and this requires non-violence and civility while addressing the conflicts. The cognitive rehearsal technique is also related to the communication aspect in the organization. Often, poor or one-sided communication may cause conflicts to arise.

The cognitive rehearsal technique can be applied to my workplace to further improve the organizational health and build stronger teams. For instance, whenever there is a misunderstanding in the workplace, the cognitive rehearsal technique can be implemented effectively to ensure that the misunderstanding is addressed professionally (Kile et al., 2019). In addition, considering the views of all employees while making decisions will enhance inclusivity and the employees will feel valued. The technique can also be used to help employees express their concerns and interests in a polite manner even when the points might be conflicting. Therefore, the individuals in the workplace will learn and gradually implement the cognitive rehearsal technique.

The Work Environment Assessment revealed that the organization was performing poorly as workers were overworked or the workload was unevenly distributed and that the organization did not encourage its employees to take care of their personal health and wellbeing. To reduce overworking the staff and achieving an even distribution of the workload, the organization can invest in having the staff work in manageable shift hours. For instance, nurses can work an 8-hour shift then rest.  This will allow every nurse ample time to rest and thus, offer quality work throughout their shift. In addition, the hospital is also advised to develop a schedule where teams handle different roles. This will be done on a rotational basis and allow the workload to be distributed evenly (Walter et al., 2017). For instance, if one team of nurses handle the maternity department this month, they will shift to the adults’ ward department the next month and thus work effectively while experiencing minimal fatigue. To encourage the employees, address their personal health and wellbeing, the hospital can provide wellness facilities in the workplace to enable the nurses exercise and remain fit. The hospital; can also provide healthy meal options for the workers to enable them achieve good health in the long-term (Rose et al., 2017).

To promote successful practices as revealed in the Work Environment Assessment, institutions need to invest in educating and empowering their staff. This will allow their employees to achieve successful practices that, in turn, will reflect positively to the said institutions. This can be achieved by offering them training and sponsoring them to further their studies. Another important aspect to implement is striving to employ and retain the best minds in the different practices. Given their years of experience, such individuals will continue to offer quality care and also offer mentorship to junior employees who would later walk in their steps. This way, successful practices will be achieved as long as the institution continues to operate.

Assessing the Problem: Technology, Care Coordination, and Community Resources Considerations

The medical condition distinguished with the end goal of this assessment is Gastroesophageal reflux illness known as GERD. “GERD is the most well-known gastrointestinal problem in the United States answerable for more than nine million short-term visits a year” (Richter and Rubenstein, 2018). This issue is brought about by stomach corrosive every now and again streaming once more into an individual’s throat. To get an analysis, a doctor might arrange an upper endoscopy, a wandering corrosive test, an esophageal manometry, an x-ray of the upper stomach related framework, or dependent just upon an actual assessment of the individual’s side effects (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2020). Indigestion and disgorging are the most often experienced side effects of GERD, however, may likewise incorporate chest discomfort, sickness and heaving, and dysphagia (Richter and Rubenstein, 2018). In spite of the fact that mortality related to GERD is not often, it can cause serious imperfections in an individual’s personal satisfaction. This evaluation will zero in on how medical services innovation, the coordination of care, and different local area assets can address my patient’s analysis of GERD. Health Care Technology

Medical services innovation is an indispensable piece of present-day medication by expanding patient wellbeing and accommodation. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) furnished with robotized updates and scanner tag organization frameworks have uncovered quantifiable information on better persistent results. This innovation has prompted an expansion in vaccinations, a diminishing in medicine blunders, and an expansion in generally tolerant fulfillment (Feldman et al., 2018). In spite of the fact that there are no quick expense investment funds when these frameworks are first carried out because of their underlying cost, EMRs seem OK monetarily longer-term through staff fulfillment and additional opportunity for direct tolerant consideration (Reis et al., 2017). E-recommending is turning out to be more typical in both long-term and short-term settings. Electronic remedies dispense with the mystery of deciphering unintelligible penmanship from suppliers on conventional solution slips. This increments patient wellbeing as its suppliers mistake-free reasonable remedies straightforwardly to the patients’ drug store, assisting with wiping out the risks from polypharmacy (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2021).

The utilization of E-prescriptions likewise increments drug consistence for patients. Studies have shown that the utilization of E-prescriptions has expanded the underlying remedy fill rate by a modest amount when contrasted with the people who utilize conventional paper remedies (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2022). These frameworks likewise by and large send electronic prompts to patients when the time has come to get or reorder their medicines permitting their suppliers to check whether they are being agreeable with treatment and recognize any holes that should be tended to. My volunteer expresses that it assists with keeping him from stalling on getting the solutions filled which was in many cases an issue for him in the past with conventional paper prescriptions. Likewise, he specifically much rather has his solutions sent electronically due to the benefit of not losing the hard copy prescription and for financial reasons. He expresses that it likewise assists with keeping him from stalling on getting the solutions filled which was in many cases an issue for him in the past with conventional paper remedies. In any case, innovation is not without its shortcomings. A few obstructions to the outcome of E-prescriptions might incorporate choosing some unacceptable patient, framework ready exhaustion, inaccurate prescription determination, and difficulties between frameworks of the supplier and drug store (Degnan, 2019).

Innovation has likewise made it workable for various treatment choices for GERD. Not every person experiencing GERD will answer way of life changes and PPIs alone. While medical procedure is a choice, new innovation has made overseeing side effects less obtrusive. BARRX Radio Frequency Ablation Therapy considers the obliteration of precancerous cells brought about by difficulties of GERD through an upper endoscopy strategy (Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, 2017). This technique is an immediate methodology that requires zero cuts and has a short recuperation period. The ManoScan ESO High-Resolution Manometry System has made it feasible for a research facility-based symptomatic test that requires under ten minutes to finish. The high-goal symbolism makes diagnosing for GERD and other esophageal problems more exact (Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, 2017). The Digitrapper Reflux Testing System via a catheter permits suppliers to track down the wellspring of a patient’s unharmed heartburn. One more demonstrative medical services innovation for GERD is the Bravo Reflux Testing System that utilizes a case to gather analytic information while the patient approaches their typical everyday exercises. This innovation gives suppliers more precise demonstrative outcomes as it takes into consideration longer-term observing of side effects (Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, 2017).

Care Coordination and Community Resources

Patients living with constant circumstances extraordinarily benefit from care coordination arranging. Compelling consideration coordination arranging thinks about the patient’s inclinations and needs and imparts them to all people engaged with the patient’s consideration, to accomplish protected and superior grade medical care (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2018). Facilitators alongside the patient’s Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) cooperate to forestall any superfluous copy testing or prescription blunders. This cooperative exertion expands the patient’s consistence with their treatment, and along these lines emphatically impacts their results. The nurse’s crucial job in care coordination arranging is to be a solid supporter for their patients. Medical caretakers guarantee the voice of the patient is heard while working together with the whole medical care group. They are ready to work with an assorted populace with an assortment of complicated needs no matter what their work on setting making their job in care coordination of most extreme significance (Swan et al., 2019). They persistently teach the patient and their family on their illness interaction, treatment routine, medicine schooling, and release directions.

“The administration of GERD requires an interprofessional approach including essential consideration suppliers, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, bariatric specialists, and drug specialists” (Antunes and Aleem, 2021). Numerous patients with GERD will just require the regulation by their essential consideration supplier, nonetheless, patients with additional extreme side effects or intricacies require a group of experts to deal with their infection to accomplish a greater of life. Essential consideration suppliers might make the underlying conclusion and supplier references to experts in light of their evaluation of side effects. Patients who are overweight might should be furnished with guiding administrations for way of life changes and bariatric medical procedures. Respiratory experts ought to be brought into the interdisciplinary group when patients present with persistent hacking, asthma, or raspiness. A multidisciplinary approach prompts the most ideal results for the patient (Antunes and Aleem, 2021).

Care facilitators can likewise guide patients to various local area assets applicable to their

condition. There are a few web-based help bunches for individuals living with GERD in which they can pose each other inquiries, offer guidance, and general help. One such care group is gone through the WebMD’s site and incorporates different conversation presents accessible for nothing on its users (Reflux.org, n.d.). Since patients with a comparable finding can connect with one another, support bunches fundamentally affect working on individuals’ emotional wellness, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic where socialization is restricted (Suresh et al., 2021).

As recently referenced, GERD the board frequently requires way of life alterations. Patients who are overweight, eat seared food varieties, and smoke are bound to intensify their side effects. Many states have assets for smoking discontinuance and wellbeing focuses to assist with tending to these ways of life decisions. The Massachusetts Department of Health offers grown-up occupants assets for their excursion to stop smoking. They are given a welcome unit that incorporates admittance to help gatherings, quit mentors, and a two free weeks’ inventory of nicotine patches to battle urges (Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program (MTCP). Albeit these and numerous different conveniences are remembered for enrollments, some might confront monetary hindrances to these projects because of expensive participation rates.

Standards and Policies

Care coordination is viewed as a well-being activity, working under the laws of HIPAA; the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, care organizers might settle on well-being choices in light of the patient’s inclinations for the most ideal results of the patient; this being an instance of working under the moral rule of non-evil (Strategic Management Services LLC, 2019). The principal objective of HIPAA is to shield an individual’s private medical care data from being revealed without the patients’ assent. With numerous medical clinics carrying out EHRs, these offices actually should likewise embrace a progression of shields to additionally safeguard patient data. These shields might incorporate protection screens, secure logins, and infection assurance programming. On the off chance that breaks in security to happen, HIPAA expects offices to inform the impacted people and perhaps face extreme money-related punishments (Moore and Frye, 2020).

Each state in the United States has its own novel arrangement of nursing practice guidelines put forward guidelines on nursing care authorized by each state’s Board of Nursing (BON). “NPAs underline the responsibility of all medical caretakers for giving as well as further developing safe client care” (Huynh and Haddad, 2021). The Massachusetts BON depicts an enlisted proficient medical healthcare worker as diagnosing and getting patient reactions to their medical conditions through tolerant training, case finding, and wellbeing directing. It takes note that an attendant’s indicative honor is particular from a clinical finding in that it recognizes and oversees physical and psychosocial side effects inside the nursing extent of training (Department of Law and Public Safety, 2020). Attendants should keep a decent upright person while working on nursing care. Working under these nursing practice principles will guarantee moral top-notch nursing care to give ideal patient results. Side effect regulation, and instruction are inside the New Jersey nursing practice principles.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) has fostered a nursing general set of principles that fills in as a bunch of guidelines and directions for healthcare workers to practice and pursue choices in light of their qualities while keeping inside their extent of training (Haddad and Geiger, 2021). The nursing overarching set of principles is comprised of nine arrangements to direct attendants into moral navigation. Summed up, these arrangements incorporate rehearsing with empathy, continuously serving the patient, pushing for the benefit of the patient, taking responsibility, proceeding with individual and expert development, working on the moral climate of the working environment, performing the insightful request, teaming up, and keeping up with civil rights (Haddad and Geiger, 2021). Each attendant should be comfortable with the nursing overarching set of principles as it is the establishment of great patient-focused care.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) executed in 2010 made health care coverage more reasonable to Americans in this manner permitting more individuals to have medical care. Under this demonstration, the insurance agency is expected to cover people with previous circumstances at no additional expenses and proposition free protection care (U.S. Places for Medicare and Medicaid, n.d.). Numerous patients with GERD depend on PPIs for side effect regulation as a deep-rooted treatment. This can turn into exorbitant as a cash-based cost. The ACA makes seeing a supplier more open and consequently permits individuals to have the option to get solutions for these significant prescriptions frequently for less expensive expenses than over-the-counter items.

Part Two

The patient I teamed up with is a thirty-three-year-old male determined to have GERD three years prior. Risk factors for GERD incorporate weight, pregnancy, hiatal hernias, connective tissue issues, deferred stomach purging, white race, male sex, old age, smoking, eating enormous suppers before bed, greasy or seared food varieties, liquor, espresso, and certain meds like ibuprofen (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2020). This patient has a few of these gamble factors including his sex, dietary propensities, way of life decisions, and being overweight. Right now, the patient encounters indigestion consistently and encounters spewing forth or retching a few times each week. He is conflicting with his prescription and misses the mark on inspiration to focus on long-haul way of life decisions that could work on his side effects.

Subsequent to investing some energy with the patient instructing them on his present gamble factors and the difficulties that can happen in the event that he does not view his side effects in a serious way, he was pleased to put forth a cognizant attempt to work on his personal satisfaction. The groundbreaking administration style was useful while examining with the patient to furnish him with the certainty and inspiration for change. Whenever he was initially analyzed, his PCP did not invest satisfactory energy with him examining transforms he can make other than taking endorsed PPIs. He was energetic about the work placed into his consideration plan utilizing Lewin’s three-stage model. He is focused on taking his PPI day to day, removing broiled food varieties, not eating before bed, and dozing in the right situation for side effect decrease that he was new to beforehand. Subsequent to inspecting the article on E-solutions by the CDC, the patient is in understanding that this innovation has most certainly made him more consistent in his PPI treatment. Despite the fact that cost is not a boundary for this patient as far as his treatment, he expresses that time is. While eager to use local area assets, he is stressed over how much time important to accomplish results with a busy lifestyle. Changes to the consideration plan might require more virtual or at-home assets for wellness to oversee side effects.

Conclusion

All in all, GERD is a sickness that influences a huge number of Americans consistently. Way of life adjustments, PPI treatment, and conceivable medical procedures are altogether suitable therapy choices for GERD. As a team with other medical services suppliers, attendants might teach their patients about side effects help and the executives inside their extent of training to improve the patient’s personal satisfaction. Care coordination and medical services innovation have further developed consistence rates and patient results.

Assessing the Problem: Leadership, Collaboration, Communication, Change Management, and Policy Considerations

The medical condition distinguished with the end goal of this assessment is Gastroesophageal reflux illness known as GERD. GERD is the most well-known gastrointestinal problem in the United States answerable for more than nine million short-term visits a year (Richter and Rubenstein, 2018). In spite of the fact that mortality related with GERD is not often, it can cause serious imperfections in an individual’s personal satisfaction. Change Management, and Policy Considerations

The patient I teamed up with is a thirty-three-year-old Hispanic male determined to have GERD three years prior. He is conflicting with his prescription and misses the mark on inspiration to focus on long haul way of life decisions that could work on his side effects.

It is my obligation to give ideal patient consideration using the most recent proof-based rehearses as a nurse. A critical piece of patient consideration is giving careful patient instruction to permit the patient to deal with their side effects and wellbeing worries outside of the clinic. As I laid out beforehand, GERD is the most well-known gastrointestinal issue in the United States influencing a huge number of Americans consistently. An individual’s way of life decisions enormously affects the seriousness of side effects GERD has. The joint effort with this patient will zero in on quiet schooling to incorporate way of life changes, medicine consistence, and side effect triggers.

Analysis of Evidence from Literature

The articles picked help to prove connection with gastroesophageal reflux infection. I used Capella University’s library information base “Summons” during my inquiry. I reduced the data to guarantee all articles are peer-audited and have been distributed inside the last five years. All writers are relevant and sound to their field with articles that obviously express their reason and are applicable to the data looked for. Key expressions “GERD” and “treatment of GERD” were utilized.

The primary article “Presentation, and Epidemiology of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease” talks about the clinical show, cross-over with different issues, commonness, entanglements, and hazard elements of GERD. The article is applicable to the patient’s concern and objectives as it records various setting off factors that bother side effects of GERD. These triggers incorporate enormous greasy dinners, hot food sources, citrus, chocolates, and liquor. Lying level and twisting around additionally actuate indigestion. The patient presently works in the construction field, in which the patient twists around oftentimes at work. This combined with unfortunate food decisions, for example, inexpensive food and drinking liquor on the ends of the week all demolish the patients’ side effects. The article expresses those men are almost certain than ladies to foster difficulties from GERD including erosive esophagitis; aggravation harming the throat (Richter and Rubenstein, 2018). This measurement is additionally valid for those from a white race. Both of these variables are attributes of the patient and demonstrate to have a huge gamble of the patient fostering this entanglement should side effects go unmanaged.

The subsequent article picked “Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” subtleties the study of disease transmission and pathophysiology of GERD, side effects, intricacies, finding interaction, and treatment choices for GERD. This article is pertinent to the patients’ objectives as it talks about a few medicines and way of life changes for the treatment of side effects. That is what the creators express on the off chance that a patient isn’t encountering any “caution” side effects, for example, dysphagia, essential treatment ought to zero in on way of life adjustments (Clarrett and Hachem, 2018). These alterations incorporate lifting the top of the bed, smoking suspension, lessening liquor utilization, weight reduction, and keeping away from NSAIDs. This article contains basic data in the making of a planned consideration plan for this patient as it specifies mediations that are both attainable to the patient and inside the nursing extent of training. Boundaries to these proof-based treatment choices incorporate the patients’ ability to partake in these changes.
